Music
I play the viola/violin and have for over ten years. Currently, I am teaching myself piano and drums.
Over the past couple of years, I have made several arrangements and compositions, some of which have become quite popular. You can support me on my Ko-Fi!
Arrangements
I’ve published over a hundred pieces on my MuseScore. Some of these arrangements (often from video games) include:
- A solo piano arrangement of Down By the River from Baldur’s Gate 3 with roughly 20k views and 648 favorites!
- A string quartet arrangement of Cogwork Dancers from Hollow Knight: Silksong with 4.3k views and 74 favorites. This arrangement was also covered by violinist IAmARainbowSheep in a YouTube video with 104k views!
- An arrangement of Coral Crown from Hades II for electronic guitars, bass, drums, and solo violin. This piece was also covered by IAmARainbowSheep in this video.
- Several arrangements from Risk of Rain 2, including Once in A Lullaby and the title theme Risk of Rain 2. Both are some of my favorite arrangements I’ve ever made. A full list of all my favorite MuseScore pieces can be found here.
As well, I arranged two pieces for Symphonic Orchestra as part of the Euphonic Video Game Ensemble at UCI (EVGE). The first was an orchestration of In the Blood from Hades and the second was an orchestration of …con lentitud poderosa from Risk of Rain 2. I also assisted the director of EVGE, Gabriel Nunag, with an orchestration of Gens d’Armes and Desert After Tears from Ys VIII and Ys IX respectively. You can find the arrangement here as well as a live performance.
Compositions
I have a few original compositions, with more soon to come!
- Morphism — a piece for jazz and rock ensemble inspired by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s songs The River and Polygondwanaland. I’m quite proud of this one.
- Inhale — a piece I made for an electronic music class at the College of San Mateo. All instruments, with the exception of the drum kit, came from recorded sounds, such as piano notes, metallic banging, sibilance, and soap squelches.
- Revelation — a piece I made as a final project for the aforementioned electronic music class. While I think the mixing could be improved, I think it’s compositionally one of my best works. I’m especially a fan of the lead and the Rhodes piano.
- Greener Pastures — a piece created for a friend’s art challenge. The theme of the challenge was “Solarpunk”.
- Oath of Hippocrates — a short piece created as part of another challenge. This time, the theme was “Biopunk”. I mainly made this in a single evening, hence why it’s a little unpolished compared to my other pieces. The IDM-inspired drum programming on this one is really great though.
- A Fair Trade…? — a short piece which serves as the shop theme for the roguelike deckbuilder Grimm’s Gambit. This was another early composition of mine, so there’s definitely still room for improvement.
- Solar Showdown - Original Soundtrack — a short soundtrack for the student game Solar Showdown, created as part of UCI’s Video Game Development Club. This was one of the first pieces of music I ever composed, so it’s a little rough and there’s certainly room for improvement.
Below are a few unfinished MuseScore drafts which I think show potential. Ideally, I’ll move all these to the section above.
- Untitled Viola Composition — my first attempt at writing a classically-inspired viola/piano duet. Besides the middle section, I’d say it’s almost finished. I’m especially proud of the final section.
- Tread Silently… — a proof-of-concept for a smooth jazz remix of “Tread Lightly!”, a combat theme made by a friend for his indie JRPG Lunar Eclipse. I imagined this piece would play during a stealth mission.
- OriginalComp4 — a 5/8 jazz-adjacent piece based on a motif that I had stuck in my head one day. I like what I’ve written so far, but I’m struggling to expand upon it.
- Ephyran Groove — A short and strange rock piece I wrote. I guess could see it playing a Xenoblade game (spoken from someone who has never played a Xenoblade game). There’s some great stuff here, but overall I’m unsure if I like it. The name of the piece is a nod to the music that plays in Ephyra in Hades II, most notably the flute solo in The Necropolis. I don’t think any of what I wrote resembles actual Ephyran music.
